Being an artist for 41 years has taught me that the word ‘respect’ sums up all that is good in people and this wonderful universe. Respect for nature, life, other people, their ideas, struggles, cultures, and beliefs. It has been said that the most beautiful and important things in our lives cannot be seen, made, nor heard, but are thought in the mind, felt in the soul and breathed in the spirit. I hope that my paintings always touch people in the vibration that activates these feelings and evokes these thoughts of respect and serious contemplation of the wonder and sacredness of life, nature, and spirit. I have studied all major artists and art periods in history, including African, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Renaissance, Impressionism, Abstract, Surreal, to Modern and everything in between. Some of my favorite artists are Rembrandt, Vermeer, Da Vinci, Jackson Pollack, and Picasso. I have also studied the motivations and circumstances behind artists and periods. My motivation to paint is, in a nutshell, to elevate intellect and my circumstances are that I am in a free country. I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. I came to the United States at the age of 27, alone, but with the American attitude that from the base of a free country, I can achieve anything. For me it was the ability to offer my art, my perseverance, and my vision of beauty and peace to all who may find it through my art. I am married to an Irish American woman named Patricia Conway and we have the best of both coasts, with homes in California and also in Florida. I am living the American Dream of doing what one loves to do in ones heart. For me it is art with intention. My goal is that through my paintings, others will see, hear, feel, and most importantly, Live the beauty that makes up the natural world that we live on. If I were a musician then I would write the most beautiful classical music that I could, with nature and life as my inspiration. With the hope that it would uncover and reveal feelings in others that would bring to them the universal awareness of belonging and respect. To know that they belong wherever they are, and not an accident that somehow emerged here on Earth. I believe that the highest ideal for anyone to achieve for himself or herself is to make a difference in all of our lives on this planet. If one person has a way to bring to others an increased awareness or appreciation for life, love and our miraculous existence then they have accomplished something important to all. I have former students of mine who have become top artists the world over. Germany, France, Japan, Brazil, and Turkey are just a few places. When I was a student many years ago I studied under many fine art masters, including one, Lu Hai Su, who was friends with Picasso. Of all whom I have learned from, Nature has been the most elusive, mysterious, enlightening, instructive, and inspiring. Nature shows me beauty, truth and respect but does not tell in words, but in thoughts, feelings and vibrations. In these she shows me how she paints Life on the canvas of Space, Love in the hearts of Life, Spirit in the minds of souls, beauty in the flowers of Truth, and Respect in the Will of Awareness. I hope that you find this to be true. Thank you.
